Legislator held in alleged domestic assault
Authorities were considering whether to charge Rep. Mark Olson, R-Big Lake, in an alleged incident reported by his wife Sunday.
State Rep. Mark Olson was being held in the Sherburne County jail today after being arrested in connection with an alleged domestic assault on his wife at their Big Lake, Minn. home Sunday afternoon.
Olson, 51, a Republican who was just elected to his eighth term in the House, was taken into custody without incident at the Calvin Christian School in Blaine. Blaine police had been advised they might find Olson at the location.
Olson was booked for fifth degree domestic assault, a gross misdemeanor.
Sherburne County sheriff's deputies were called to Olson's home at 5:17 p.m. by his wife, Heidi, 50, on a report of a domestic assault, according to reports. The sherriff's department would not provide additional information about any injuries or their extent. There were no other people in the home at the time, the sheriff's department said.
Olson was being held in the Sherburne County jail in Elk River and is expected to make an initial court appearance on Tuesday. The Sherburne County Attorney is reviewing the investigation for possible charges. Sheriff's officials said there was no history of police calls to the residence prior to Sunday's incident.
