Did you know that one in six hate crimes are motivated by the victim's sexual orientation, and yet today's federal laws don't include any protections for these Americans? What's even more outrageous is that the radical right is running an all-out campaign to stop Congress from expanding hate crimes laws to include sexual orientation and gender identity -something three out of four Americans support.
The Human Rights Campaign is asking all of us to contact our Senators and urge them to pass this important legislation!
Note: Sen. Amy Klobuchar is a cosponsor of this legislation in the Senate. Sen. Norm Coleman has been a copsonsor in past years but has not signed on as a cosponsor this year and his vote one way or the other could make a major difference not only in whether this bill passes the Senate but also in whether the President chooses to veto the legislation. The more Republican support for the legislation in the Senate(it recieved some Republican support in the House) the less likely it is that President Bush will veto the bill.
That's interesting information about Norm Coleman. It will be interesting to see what he will do on this bill.
