The DFL flacks at MN Publius are thrilled. They linked to an interview they did with Tinklenberg when he ran for DFL endorsement for the seat 2 years ago.
Here's what he said about the Federal Marriage Amendment in this interview:
MNP: Some bloggers have criticized you for your positions on abortion and gay marriage, they claim that you are either too vague or too conservative. What is your position on the Federal Marriage Amendment?
ET: Like I mentioned on the Almanac program a few weeks back- I believe marriage is between one man and one woman. But a lot of what's going on right now with the Federal Marriage Amendment is a clever ruse to distract voters, overrule our nation's tradition of Federalism and attack gay people. I won't stand for that. That's part of the reason that I support civil unions and stronger laws protecting gays and lesbians from workplace discrimination.
He doesn't directly say so, but it appears that he reversed his position from his original statement during his 2006 opening press conference that he would support a constitutional ban on gay marriage.
