MN GOP Solicits Funds from Imaginary People

A 'Mrs. Mark ______' received a fundraising soliciation from the MN GOP this week. Uusually all of these mail appeals are prompty thrown away, but since there is no 'Mrs. Mark ______', I decided to respond in writing, and use up a tiny portion of the GOP's business reply mail postage account.

This letter is being sent to the attention on Ron Carey, chair of the MN GOP.

Mr. Carey

A ‘Mrs. Mark _____’ received a fundraising solicitation from the Republican Party.

It is incredibly presumptuous to assume that :

• ‘Mrs. Mark _____’ exists, and
• If there was a ‘Mrs. Mark _____’, that she would be predisposed to support Republican candidates. At one time, Mr. Mark ______ did support certain GOP candidates, but those days are long gone.

For the past two years I have personally pleaded over the phone and in direct mail responses to be removed from any and all GOP solicitation lists, your party continues to waste money and time on inactive, uninterested prospects. You even create imaginary contacts like ‘Mrs. Mark _____’ to generate direct mail volume. It all smells of desperation, as you continue to lose support.

And for the record, the funniest part of this attempt to get $50 from ‘Mrs. Mark ____’ is the fact that I, Mark _____, am a homosexual. Yes, I like ‘Project Runway’, Broadway musicals, the LOGO network, and men.

In this current election cycle, I also like most of the Democratic candidates.

Take me, and my imaginary spouse, off of your solicitation lists.

Adding a 'Mrs' to a man's name, and hoping for the best, is also risky when you think about people who are divorced or widowed, or married couples who do not share a last name. It's an incredibly lame tactic to try to make a prospect list bigger than it is.

Colorado's Michele Bachmann's Race Listed as Leans Democratic on the Rothenberg Report

Politicker:

In another sign Democrat Betsy Markey is threatening U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave's re-election hopes, the Rothenberg Political Report relabeled its rating of the 4th Congressional District race on Tuesday to "toss-up/tilt Democratic."

Rothenberg had previously rated the race as a "pure toss-up."

Politicker's Pindell Report and the Cook Political Report still rate the race as a "toss-up"; CQ Politics says the race still "leans Republican."

The Rothenberg Political Report's Nathan Gonzales told PolitickerCO.com that the rating change was due to a number of factors, including that -- unlike the past couple elections -- no third-party candidate is running in the 4th District and that Musgrave has a history of close races.

Recent polling, Gonzales said, shows Musgrave has "had a tough time even reaching 50 percent -- and in this environment where Republicans are still on the defensive, it's an extremely tough position for her to be in.

"I think (Musgrave) just had difficulties," Gonzales said. "Despite some of the Republican rhetoric about her remaking herself and changing her image, I don't think we're seeing that play out in the polling numbers."

Also, Gonzales said Markey has "a much broader appeal" than 2006 Democratic nominee Angie Paccione.

"I think she fits the district much better than Angie Paccione did," Gonzales said.

Sarah Palin on Her Gay Friend

Via Pam's House Blend.

Unlike Michele Bachmann who is an unabashed bigot on this score, and others, I don't find Palin suggesting that the only good gay is an ex-gay. She states her friend made a different choice than she did.

At this point, I'm more concerned about Palin's answers in Couric's interview about being qualified because she can see Russia from her back porch.

"As for homosexuality, I am not going to judge Americans and the decisions that they make in their adult personal relationships. I have...one of my best friends for the last 30 years happens to be gay and I love her dearly. She's not my gay friend, she is one of my best friends who happens to have made a choice that isn't a choice that I have made. But I'm not going to judge people."
