Gary Gross Defends Dave Thompson

From MN Publius comments:

Calling Dave Thompson pro-choice is proof that the commenter doesn’t know Mr. Thompson AT ALL.

I saw that At Issue face-off. Rep. Bachmann said some things that were indefensible. Mr. Thompson was right in not defending Rep. Bachmann’s comments.

It’s crazy, though, to think that he’s trying to distance himself from conservatives. After refusing to defend her comments, he said that she’s right on the issues. That’s what most Sixth CD Republicans believe.

In saying she’s right on the issues, he’s appealing to conservatives. By not defending some of her statements, he’s telling independents that he’s a straight shooter.

That’s smart strategy.

Unfortunately Thompson doesn't need the support of independents. He needs support of the base. The question is whether the base will tolerate people being publicly critical of Michele Bachmann.

Flash Calls Out the Mob Parrots

Centrisity:

Quoting Mitch Berg: There was a local leftyblogger who used to throw a wonderful summer get-together at his place, where he invited people all across the aisle. Later on, I heard that the leftybloggers who attended asked him to stop inviting conservatives.
This is a bold faced lie, as Mitch knows this is not the truth. He will now make up another howler to try to justify his deception.

ScaifeNet, trying to change the story one lie at a time!

And the usual suspects stop by and mitch:

Well, no, Flash, it's not a bold-faced lie. It's what I was told by one of the former attendees. Or did I miss something?

And if you can't tell the difference between Strom - whose conservative credentials are in no question whatsoever - and Coleman, who as a journo spent years protesting his "independence"...

...oh, are you blogging from the garage again? You must be!

I'm calling you on it since you know the truth. It is a lie!

See folks, as predicted he covers one lie with another! Typical.

Any invite list was never based on someone elses direction and you know that. So implying otherwise, regardless of your source, is false.

You never implied anything in your post other than attendance at DL was a confirmation of ones ideology. That makes Strom, Beepop, Westover, and others who calim to be righties, liberals. Good on you . . .

If anything, it shows 1) how sloppy you have become and 2) how beholden you are to your puppetmasters!

Flash, the only thing that is offical is that you have become batshit crazy.

Liberalism is a disease, Flash.

But you only need to suffer with it as long as you choose to live in denial.

Seek help before it is too late.

Truth hurts.

Video of At Issue Where Dave Thompson Condemns Michele Bachmann's Swine Flu Statements

As I posted earlier, Bachmann's swine flu gaffe was a topic on "At Issue" with Tom Hauser:

Minnesota Republican Party Chair Candidate Dave Thompson was a guest on At Issue Today. During "face off", he was asked about Michele Bachmann's statements about the swine flu. Thompson made some positive comments about Bachmann before stating that he could not defend those remarks, and that those remarks were harmful to all republicans.

Dave's chastising Bachmann makes sense.

It is no secret that Dave and his ilk of Republican want to do away with the pro-life plank or at least de-emphasize it.

So this is no surprise - should be a pretty interesting election.

I find this hard to believe. Thompson sits on the board of Edwatch, which is a fringe education organization which promotes creationism and anti-gay activism in the schools. It was through Edwatch, that Michele Bachmann got her start.

I was at the Republican convention in Robbinsdale and spoke with Thompson and here is my analysis. His campaign is focused more on fiscal issues and less on social issues. His goal in attacking Bachmann (a very dumb move) is to silence the chief spokesperson on social issues inside the Minnesota Republican Party. His campaign has aligned forces with pro-choice intellectuals who want to move the party away from the life/social issues. For Thompson to become successful, he needs to silence Bachmman (and her followers) and move the party away from pro-life/social issues. If you’re pro-choice Republican and want less discussion on social issues - you have a candidate in Dave Thompson.

Why is the pro-choice Sarah Janacek supporting Tony Sutton then?

Republican Party of Minnesota State Party Chair/Deputy Chair Debate

Thursday evening, May 28th, SD45 Republicans will host the debate between the Minnesota Republican leadership candidates for both Chair and Deputy Chair positions. It’s a first time event, and will give anyone who comes a chance to get an in-depth look at how these candidates would steer the State Republican party in these challenging times.

At the State Convention in off-election years like 2009, we elect new leaders. And at that event there are campaign speeches by the candidates. They are inspiring, rapid, and energetic, but they do not offer the chance for rebuttal or questions. This will be a true debate with a moderator, and an opportunity for your questions to be heard.

Moderators: Ed Morrissey from Hot Air and AM1280 and Annette Meeks.

Cast of Characters:

Tony Sutton - Party Chair Candidate
Carrie Ruud - Former State Senator, Party Chair Candidate
Dave Thompson - Party Chair Candidate

Dorothy Fleming - Deputy Chair Candidate
Michael Brodkorb - Deputy Chair Candidate

UPDATE: Flyer here.

Location: Armstrong High School in Plymouth.

Party Chair Candidate Dave Thompson: Michele Bachmann Embarrasses All Republicans

In other party news, Dave Fitzsimmons defeats establishment candidate Jim Knoblach 3-1.

Andy Applikowski came in 3rd in his run for deputy 6th District chair.

UPDATE: This will surely be used to try to torpedo Dave Thompson's campaign for party chair. The question is whether it will be successful.

If this torpedoes Dave Thompson's race, then there is no stopping Michele Bachmann, when she runs for a statewide race - either Senate in 2012, or Governor in 2010.

Log Cabin Republicans Criticizes Obama Administration for backpedaling on ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Policy

LOG CABIN REPUBLICANS ADMONISHES THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION AND DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP FOR BREAKING PROMISE TO THE LGBT COMMUNITY AND CONTINUING TO WEAKEN AMERICA’S MILITARY READINESS.

(Washington) – In the wake of the revelation that the White House website’s section on civil rights has been changed to remove sections concerning its intention to repeal the controversial ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy,” and other key equality passages, Log Cabin Republicans admonishes the Obama Administration and Democratic leadership for breaking its promises to the LGBT community and continuing to threaten America’s military readiness by not moving swiftly and decisively on this matter.

“For too long, Democrats have courted the LGBT community with promises of equality and fairness,” comments Terry Hamilton – Board Chairman of the Log Cabin Republicans. “The apparent backpedaling by the White House on their promise to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ is not only putting our military readiness in jeopardy, but is a slap in the face to gays and lesbians across the nation.”

In August of 2007, then-Senator Obama stated that he supported the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’. Up until several days ago, that commitment was reflected on the White House website. However, indications from senior White House and Democratic leadership signaled that ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ legislation would be stalled indefinitely. In January, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel signaled that repealing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ would not be high on the priority list, although Obama was recommitting US troops to efforts in Afghanistan – an area where some of the 12,000 DADT discharged troops would be needed most. On Thursday, April 23rd, Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) announced that repeal legislation would not be on the Democratic agenda until next year at the earliest.

Log Cabin Republicans spokesman Charles T. Moran further comments: “President Obama criticized his own Party in August of 2007 for failing the test of ensuring freedom for dedicated gays and lesbians to serve openly and honorably in the Armed Forces. He is walking dangerously far down that same road and failing that same test himself.”

“Between backpedaling on ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and passing over qualified gay & lesbian public servants for senior administration & cabinet positions – just in the first 100 days of his Administration - all gays and lesbians should question what President Obama’s agenda really is for our community and for the defense of our nation,” states Moran.

Log Cabin Republicans calls upon the United States Congress to swiftly pass HR 1283 – The Military Readiness Enhancement Act.
